Written by Caz Velde

The time is almost approaching to Second Life's® 7th! Birthday. There are many celebrations taking place, including the availability of land for residents to show their creative side with exhibitions.

This year's theme for the celebration is Unexpected Collaborations. I sure many of you have had many interesting experiences with people in second life. The whole of second life is based on meeting people, working with people. Second life is a huge social network, so I am sure they will be many great exhibitions for the theme.

Opening Our Life

Written by Megotta Zuta

There was a time in the history of the ‘Information Superhighway’ when the internet as we know it today didn’t exist.  Today, when we talk about the internet, we can relate to terms like ‘http’ or ‘www’ but this wasn’t always the case.  Back in what I like to call the stone age, most online services were presented through portal sites such as AOL or Compuserve.  As more people became accustomed to the idea of ‘crawling the web’ these mega-portals’ popularity decreased and the new age of internet service providers (ISPs) emerged.  This is where we stand today with Linden Lab’s 3D virtual world platform the Second Life Grid™ but with a unique twist.

Worlds Inside the SL World

Written by Vict0r Burnesdean

Dancers at Club Zero

Every passing day I´m more and more amazed by Second Life®. Second Life or SL, the world of parallel lives, which has grown to an incredible speed through the years, and already has more than 15 million residents, of all countries and ages. Second Life has gone from being just a game for some, to adopting a unique morphology that other sims lack or fail to evolve to the same degree of realism offered by SL. Thousands of analogies with the real world has made this metaverse become a meta-reality for some, where you can live, have sex, marry, have kids, prosper and even die, just like the real world. As you notice, this allows endless opportunities, and in this article I would like to highlight some of them.

Providing Success: SP Expo

Written by Megotta Zuta

Starting in 2006, Linden Research, Inc.© launched the Second Life® Solution Provider Program.  This was developed to specifically address the needs of outside, real-world organizations seeking to establish a presence in Second Life®.  This program has really played an important role assisting in the transition to the virtual realm because in January 2010 a permanent trade-show style Solution Provider Exposition, or SP Expo, was announced by Madhavi Linden. Now, instead of using static web-based media, the Solution Providers can connect to the general public for free year round at the SP Expo.

Salient Commerce

Written by Megotta Zuta

Deciding to go into business in Second LifeTM is like needing power to run a computer, it's a necessity.  Almost every business is based on a service model, whether the service is providing goods, expertise, consultation or a unique perspective.  The virtual needs of a business can be met in different ways but the ultimate purpose is to allow easy connection between businesses and their clients.  The focus of this article is how these businesses are achieving that connection.

A Vendor at Precious Poison

The inworld vendors on store walls or as free-standing kiosks offer some amazing options to merchants even if they only have enough space for a kiosk. There are several different companies offering vending systems with a large variety of features. hippoVEND, JEVN and Apez are examined here to give some ideas as to what is available to merchants looking to increase sales and simplify operations.
